Landmark Conference semifinal capsules

Three University teams are set to host Landmark Conference semifinal matchups on Wednesday.

Women’s Soccer (12-3-2 overall, 7-0 conference)

Who: No. 1 Royals vs No. 4 Elizabethtown College (9-6-1, 4-3)
When: Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Where: Fitzpatrick Field
Last Time: Scranton 3, Elizabethtown 1 on Sept. 30
The Rundown: Boasting a perfect record in conference play, The University’s women’s soccer team earned the top seed and home field advantage through the Landmark playoffs. The Royals posted 11 shutouts and outscored conference opponents 21-2 this season. Elizabethtown shutout teams in six games and is 7-1 on the road.

Player to Watch: Jamie Hreniuk – The junior forward leads the team with 11 goals this season, including a goal and an assist against Elizabethtown on Sept. 30.

What’s Next: With a victory on Wednesday, the Royals will host the winner of No. 2 Susquehanna University vs No. 3 Catholic University on Saturday. If the Royals lose, they are eliminated from conference playoffs and will wait to see if they are selected to play in the Division III NCAA Tournament.

 

Volleyball (34-4 overall, 5-1 conference)

Who: No. 2 Royals vs No. 3 Susquehanna University (21-11, 5-1)
When: Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Where: John Long Center
Last Time: Susquehanna 3, Scranton 1 on Saturday
The Rundown: The Royals finished the regular season with a program-record 34 wins and handed Juniata College its first ever conference loss since joining the Landmark in 2007. Juniata, The University and Susquehanna all finished 5-1 in conference play, but tiebreakers slot the Royals second with a home semifinal match. Susquehanna and The University each had 12-game win streaks at one point. The Royals look for revenge as the River Hawks hold the head-to-head bragging rights this season.

Player to Watch: Kristin Kirwan – The junior leads the team in kills (437) and has been hot recently, recording double-digit kills in each of her last seven matches.

What’s Next: With a victory on Wednesday, the Royals take on the winner of No. 1 Juniata College vs No. 4 Moravian College on Saturday. If the Royals lose, they are eliminated from conference playoffs and will wait to see if they are selected to play in the Division III NCAA Tournament.

 

Field Hockey (15-2 overall, 6-1 conference)

Who: No. 2 Royals vs No. 3 Juniata College (11-6, 5-2)
When: Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Where: Fitzpatrick Field
Last Time: Scranton 3, Juniata 1 on Oct. 14
The Rundown: The Royals’ 15-game win streak was their best start in program history before dropping their last two matches. The Royals allowed just 17 goals in 17 games, posting 7 shutouts and boasting a 9-0 home record. Juniata carries a three-game win streak into the playoffs but is 4-5 on the road.

Player to Watch: Meredith Campbell – The senior forward earned Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week honors four weeks in a row and leads the team in points (67) and goals (30). She scored two goals against Juniata on Oct. 14.

What’s Next: With a victory on Wednesday, the Royals take on the winner of No. 1 Catholic University vs No. 4 Elizabethtown College on Saturday. If the Royals lose, they are eliminated from conference playoffs and will wait to see if they are selected to play in the Division III NCAA Tournament.
