Liva Arts Company will perform “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” this spring.

The student-run theater group announced the show on its Instagram page Jan. 16. The show will be directed by senior Margaret Schairer, with sophomore Searra VanDerveer as assistant director.

Auditions for the show were held Jan. 28 and 29 in the Byron Center from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Students who auditioned were asked to prepare a 30- to 60-second cut of any pop or musical theater song.

Cecelia Ciaverelli, a first-year business analytics major from Langhorne, auditioned for the show and was cast in the ensemble. She said she is excited to be a part of the production and to get to know everyone involved.

“The directors and the community of Liva Arts Company are truly amazing to be around,” she said.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is a musical retelling of the biblical story of Jacob’s son Joseph and his brothers. Written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the show opened on Broadway in 1982 and received six Tony Award nominations, including best musical and best original score. Some of the songs in the show include “Any Dream Will Do,” “There’s One More Angel in Heaven,” and “Close Every Door.”

Macy Hammond, a senior occupational therapy major from Poughkeepsie, NY, will be playing one of three narrators in the show. Hammond is also the president of Liva Arts Company, and she is excited to bring this show to the university community.

“I’m so excited to tell this story with this specific group of people. The show is going to a huge dance party, and I think everyone in the audience is going to have a wonderful time,” she said.

Liva Arts Company performs two musicals each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. This past semester, the group performed “Urinetown,” directed by Alex Taylor and assistant directors Delaney Bartram and Cecelia Kennedy.

Keep on eye on Liva’s Instagram page to find out when you can see this biblical Broadway classic on campus.
