DICKSON CITY — The Moon Tavern will host the third annual NEPA Comic Con. The Star Wars-themed event runs Friday through Sunday and will benefit a local nonprofit.
Eric Kropiewnicki, general manger of Moon Tavern and organizer of NEPA Comic Con, found a way to give back to the community while keeping it entertaining. Moon Tavern is partnering with Lunar Tides, which offers a helping hand to people and businesses in NEPA. Moon Tavern has hosted events and fundraisers for Lunar Tides before.
“Lunar Tides is a nonprofit organization that we’ve tied in since the beginning. They’re still building up, but they have donated money to a cancer patient and other different people in the community that have issues or problems,” said Kropiewnicki.
A portion of all proceeds and door ticket sales will go to Lunar Tides.
Kropiewnicki enjoys giving back to the community; he considers it his hobby. His goal is to bring joy to the community any way he can.
“Having the families come in, all the smiling everyone getting involved in the cosplay runway or anything like that. It’s a joy,” said Kropiewnicki.
Kropiewnicki based the theme for this year off of what was popular last year. The community loved the charity Star Wars costume groups that showed their support last year. These groups came dressed as popular Star Wars characters with lightsabers and even had an R2-D2 robot that made sounds.
This year, the Star Wars groups will return along with Star Wars actors. Christine Galey, the first woman to puppet R2-D2, is a featured guest alongside comic creator Jeff Brennan, voice actor Trevor Devall, and actress Susanna Malak.
Along with the featured guests, there will be a variety of artists and vendors, including a tattoo artist and local comic artist Ryan Jay, who is the writer and illustrator of “Modern Monsters,” a series about Drunk Vampires in Scranton.
University of Scranton student Enzo Angeloni attended NEPA Comic Con last year, where he was able to find a copy of the original Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64.
“I was able to buy a lot of really cool video games and comic books and stuff like that. It had a really big showing, which I wasn’t really anticipating,” said Angeloni.
Angeloni plans on going back to NEPA Comic Con this year and is excited to see what the vendors bring this year.
Advance tickets for NEPA Comic Con are $10 for Saturday, $5 for Sunday and $15 for the weekend. VIP All Access Pass is $100 and includes a VIP party with vendors. Advanced tickets are available until 11 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are also available at the door for $5 more.
