Men's golf swings to victory

The University of Scranton Men’s Golf Team sailed to a comfortable victory at Moravian University’s Wey Hill Classic on Sept. 16th. Scranton’s final team score totaled to an impressive 296 followed distantly by second place Albright College (314) and then third place Drew University (320).

The tournament which hosted 12 schools was held in Bethlehem with T-off time at 1:00 p.m. While achieving such a triumphant victory on a difficult course, the team had multiple standout performances which were as follows: Junior Jack Novis played an outstanding round finishing at 70(-1); a score that earned him medalist honors. Junior Gehrig Shannon shot a terrific round ending at 71(E). Team captain, Liam Burtis played an impressive game, also ending at 76 (+5). And last, but certainly not least, junior Juliano Nieto and team Captain Danny Harding both shot 79 (+8) to secure the victory for the Royals.

All five royals who competed in this tournament were also ranked within the top 10 out of nearly 60 competitors for their individual performance. Novis’ score earned him 1st place in the tournament. Shannon’s score earned him 2nd place overall in the tournament followed by Burtis at 5th place. Nieto and Harding tied for 10th place in the tournament.

Watch out for the royals as they travel with great momentum further into their season.
