Women’s Basketball Gets a New Head Coach

Ben O’Brien will take over the reins as the new head coach of the University of Scranton women’s basketball team.  

O’Brien steps up from the high school ranks from Dunmore High School. O’Brien coached the Lady Bucks to 13 league championships, 10 district championships and 13 PIAA State Tournament appearances. His overall record over the last 14 seasons was 347-43.  

During his time at Dunmore, O’Brien coached eight players who earned All-State honors and 13 who were name All-Regional honors. Additionally, he has coached over 15 players that went on to play college basketball, most notable University of North Carolina commit and Dunmore product Ciera Toomey 

O’Brien take the program from Nick DiPillo who accepted an assistant coach position at University of Pittsburgh. The Royals have won seven straight Landmark Conference Championships and advanced to the Sweet 16 last season with a 27-3 record.  

Players are excited with O’Brien’s arrival and look to build chemistry quickly
