The Scranton Men’s Basketball program started their 2022-2023 campaign with their first official practice in the Long Center Saturday.

The roster, under head coach Carl Danzig, showcases a mix of young talented first-years but is balanced out with a senior class filled with experience.

The Royals open play when they host the annual Hilton Scranton Invitational on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 with a contest versus Houghton slated for 5:30 p.m.

Following consecutive road trips to Wilkes on Nov. 16 and Stevens Nov. 19, the Royals play three out of four in the Long Center versus Eastern on Nov. 30, Goucher on Dec. 3 and Penn State Harrisburg Dec. 10.

Scranton will compete in the Puerto Rico Clasico leading up to Christmas with contests in San Juan against Washington & Lee and Lycoming. They will finish up the calendar year with a local rivalry versus King’s on New Year’s Eve. The New Year begins with three more on the road including Landmark Conference play at Catholic Jan. 7 and Susquehanna Jan. 11.

The Landmark Conference playoffs begin on Feb. 22 with semifinal action and the conference championship game set for Feb. 25.

New assistant coach, Jeff Frank, has liked what he has seen thus far in practice.

“This is a special group. Really exciting to see all 16 guys come together for the betterment of Scranton Basketball. From grad student to freshman we strive to “Win The Day” and “Set The Standard” in the classroom, on the court, and in the community,” Frank said.
