Scranton women’s soccer extended their winning streak to five after a late game goal against conference opponent Moravian.
After a tough start to the season, the women’s soccer team has found their groove winning eight of their last nine only dropping a heartbreaker at home to Misericordia in the final minutes.
The charge has been led by leading scores Niamh Healy and Mary Haggerty with 13 goals between the two. The offense has been able to consistently get the ball to their scorers in great positions. The Royals are averaging 2.50 goals per game which is top in the conference.
The defense for the Royals has strengthened throughout the year behind starting goalie Nikki Olson only allowing two goals this season. Olson’s goals against average rating are fourth best in the country and first in the region.
Healy is happy with how the team is coming together but knows they most stay focused.
“Being on a five-game win streak has given us some confidence as we are finishing up the regular season. We have been working hard all season to be able to be in the position we are, and we are going to have to push ourselves in our remaining conference games to get the results we want. Everyone on the team gets so excited to be out on the field each day, and it’s a blessing so be able to be a part of such an amazing team,” Healy said.
The Royals finish the season off with a tough game against Susquehanna Oct. 22 with first place in the conference on the line. They wrap up their schedule against Penn State Berks Oct. 26 and Juniata College Oct. 29.
The Landmark playoffs are set to kick off Nov. 2 and a champion will be crowned on Nov. 5.
